Why is UO so unfair to only sell it in the US?!?!

Sad tears from Barcelona…

On Books and Bookstores

The Ateneo Grand Splendid has to be the best bookstore in the world! No question. I mean, how cool is this!?!?

As we entered the building we both draw our breaths! We are a pair of suckers for bookstores but this one is in a whole new level! Plus they have armchairs around the balconies for you to pick up a book and read it. Not even browse it. Proper read it! I think my idea of heaven must be quite close to that place! :)

But the truth is that I haven’t been reading much lately, it seems that I never manage to find enough hours to do all the designing and crafting I want to get done! But all those thousands of books got me motivated again, and I’ve already written my Book Waiting List. Top 4:

I can’t wait to read the third volume of the Wicked Years, ever since I read Wicked I fell in love with Maguire’s skill to surprise you with what you thought you already knew. / The “Immortal Vengeance” is more a marketing tool than a book, but it’s still great fun. An Argentinean soda company (or the ad agency behind it, better said) came up with the novel idea of creating a website for people to send messages to their ex’s, under the slogan: “Cut with the sweetness”. This is the compilation of the most inspired messages. / “A confederacy of Dunces” is next on the list because is set in New Orleans, and ever since being in the city I’ve developed quite an obsession for it (and because I still remember Stanley laughing out loud on his own while reading it!). / And finally the Chaplin book is a beautifuly designed scrapbook/biography of the actor. I randomly rediscovered his early stuff a couple of days ago and I realized I don’t know nearly enough about him, so the slightly steep spending on this book would be clearly justified! :)

Anyway, off to bed! Maybe off to read?! ;)

Good night. Sleep tight. Don’t let the bedbugs bite.

P.S. I’m a looser. I actually googled “best library in the world” and acordingly to the Guardian newspaper, the Ateneo is the second best, after the one in Maastricht. Mmm…! Will have to see about that!! ;)

Bits & Bobs

And that was Wednesday! How was it for you?

Around here in Buenos Aires it has been a random day: very sunny in the morning, then threatened to rain just to finally clear out and be sunny again! My day has kind of followed the weather, with some interesting bits and some average bobs. And here for you 4 fun little discoveries.

1. Stickers & Donuts! New favourite (or at least up there on the top) lifestyle blog with lots of fun posts and some good crafty projects. Specially loving the “Unemployment Craft Projects”! Ha!

2. 9h Hotel. I oh! so need to go to Kyoto now! How fun does this luxury pod hotel look? Is based around the idea that when in transit you only need 9h in a hotel: “1 hour shower, 7 hours sleep, 1 hour rest/prep = 9h.”. The actual sleeping quarters are only 4 feet wide and 7 foot long, but hey-ho! everything needs to be tested at least once in life! Plus everything comes packaged in sleek japanese minimal design! :)

3. Cut-the-crap email solution. I’m actually the worst person I know for replying to emails (nope, not proud at all), so Stanley gave me the final solution today: five.sentenc.es.

Event at risk of seeming the driest friend of the lot, I might give it a go… if it helps me press that “send” button I’ll do anything! :) By the way, there’s also  the 2, 3 and 4 sentences options, but I figured that might be pushing it…

4. How to use a semicolon by Oatmeal. I so needed this…

:)

That’s that. Good night!

Friday I’m in ♥ with 100 Ladies

While having a cheeky browse through Etsy I discovered the work of Lucy Peterson.

pics from her Etsy shop

100 Ladies is a collection of hand-stitched pinups, that she describes as “think: arty-meets-crafty, with a retro-feminist-fetishist edge”. I love love love their simplicity and beauty! I’m bookmarking them for my future studio! :)

By the way, for those in SA, she currently has her pin ups on show at the Pin Me Up & Down exhibit!

Anyway, off to put some lunch together and then I’m accompanying Stanley to his Spanish entry level test. He’s going to be starting classes on Monday! I can’t wait, it will be fun practicing situations and simple conversations together! :)

& that’s that for now!

Fingers crossed…

If you want to have your go, head here now! Competition closes on Monday 8th!

Good luck! ;)

Early Christmas, please?

I made a mistake.

I checked Urban Outfitters’ home & gifts department and now my Christmas Wish list is 6 items longer and £107 heavier! And considering that I won’t be getting presents this year, I’m a tad sad…  (I know, a three month trip around South America is present enough… but, how cute is the bunny tape meater?!)

1. Hand Sewing Machine

2. Tape Measure

3. Doughnut Box Storage

4. Placemat Set

5. Cuckoo Clock

6.  Hamburger Phone

On a brighter note, today is Guy Fawkes Night and we are going to town to see the Fireworks display and go to the Fun Fair!! Can’t wait to stuff myself with popcorn, candy floss and feel dizzy after the rides! I just love this festivity, I think it’s funny how more than 400 years on, the atempted act of treason is still remembered! I wonder if Guy ever expected his immortal fame…

Anyway, some trivia about the unsuccessful and unlucky Guy here, and while at it, why not try your hand at an origami Guy Fawkes mask…? (random, I know)
